Seychelles Maritime Academy Staff Complete Multifunctional Simulator Training

Victoria, Seychelles – 29 May 2026

Eight staff members from the Seychelles Maritime Academy (SMA), together with an examiner from the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (SMSA), have successfully completed the manufacturer-certified training programme for the Academy’s newly installed Wartsila Multifunctional Simulator.
The five-day on-site training programme was conducted by Captain Gaurav Bajaj, Senior Product Lead – Simulation at Wartsila, and concluded on 29 May 2026.
The training was a mandatory requirement prior to the commissioning of the simulator and was delivered daily from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to ensure that normal teaching activities and learner instruction at the Academy were not disrupted.
Participants received comprehensive instruction on the operation and management of the state-of-the-art 180-degree bridge simulator.
The simulator provides access to fifteen international harbors, including Port Victoria, allowing trainees to experience realistic navigational scenarios in a variety of operating environments.
In addition to bridge navigation training, the multifunctional simulator incorporates a fisheries simulation module and tug operation training capabilities, significantly enhancing the Academy’s capacity to deliver practical, industry-relevant maritime education and training.
The marine engineering component of the training programme was completed online in April 2026, ensuring that both nautical science and marine engineering personnel are adequately prepared to utilize the new training technology.
The installation and commissioning of the Wartsila Multifunctional Simulator represent a major milestone in the continued development of maritime education and training in Seychelles.
The Academy remains committed to providing learners with access to modern training facilities that meet international maritime industry standards and support the development of competent seafarers for the national and international maritime sectors.
The training does not end here. Pending is the Training of Trainers and Assessment (TOTA) IMO Model course 6.09 to be conducted by IMO certified trainer in Seychelles and curriculum development training at CINEC Campus.
The state-of-the-art Navigation, Fisheries and Marine Engineering simulator will be commissioned on 12th June 2026 by the Minister of Fisheries Agriculture and the Blue Economy in the presence of foreign and Seychellois delegatory
